What Makes Our School Unique?
William Henry Oliver, the former teacher, principal, and superintendent for whom the school is named, was noted for instilling citizenship in the students with whom he worked. According to the resolution requesting that a school be named for him, Mr. Oliver was noted for his strength of character, congeniality, and compassion.
At Oliver Middle School, parents and teachers work together to create a learning environment that empowers students with the knowledge and skills to become successful and productive citizens. Oliver Middle School has a very active PTA that works to provide funds for instructional materials and incentives for students, as well as for our teachers.
Our first year produced excellent scores on the TCAP test. Oliver Middle School was ranked 7th in the district in Reading/Language Arts and 6th in Mathematics for the percentage of students scoring proficient or advanced in each of those categories. As the first principal of W.H. Oliver Middle School, it is my hope that this new school be a traditional learning environment where students are challenged with high expectations to produce excellence in academics, attendance, character, and conduct. Opportunities for participation in age-appropriate activities and school organizations will be provided to encourage growth of the whole child. |
